Chimney removal

Hi,
I am after a bit of advice, we have a two storey victorian property, there are two fire places, one at the front of the house and one in the back room and this is the same above each room and then in the top floor the chimneys run and join together to the pots on the roof. We are considering the removal of the back room fireplace and chimney and wondered is this possible. Also,
1. How is it supprted above once removed.
2. Do i need planning or building regs for this?
3. Would it cost much more to remove from the bedroom above and then support on the second floor, or is this a problem as this is were the front and back chimneys join together. The chimneys are never used and never will be and they eat into the room space.
The nextdoor neighbours house is joined to ours, terrace, but there house was built after ours and the chimneys are not shared.

The two common options are gallow brackets or steels. The steel option is the neatest three steels one big one running across the front of the chimney and two smaller ones to pick up the sides. Its just a case of propping the chimney above ceiling height removing the chimney inseting the supports and then making good. The difficulty in removing more then ground floor will depend on whether any floor/ceiling joists span onto the chimney
