thanks so far, the model is a NF80 don't know if this will help. the wax stat is on the top right side on the flow outlet pipe. held in place by two large nuts.

From my memory which aint good this boiler has got a wax stat but I never had one go!. It works using a 3 port valve(No Mid position of course) and thermostats on various pipes.
Go loads of em on an estate round here. Pain in the ass to work on as the pressure guage is located through the top housing so you have to leave it dangling ready to break off.
