We have a mains fed, oil fired boiler.
Downstairs underfloor heating, upstairs radiators.
Pressure gauge on boiler dips over a period of time, but it is topped up to 1 bar when this happens.
The shower is located at the opposite end of the house from the boiler.

Hot water to the shower is very poor during winter months. It may last for only a minute and then is only just warm.

On occasion we have run the ‘hot’ water out 5 minutes prior to the shower and then are treated to hot water for a longer duration, possibly 5 minutes or so. However we never have a shower with an unlimited supply of hot water.
During summer months, hot showers are normal.

Can anyone advise as to what the problem is before this affects my marriage!?

Without seeing your system or even knowing the boiler model its very unlikely that anyone will be able to pinpoint your problem!

The usual solution would be to ask the engineer who does the annual service for you!

Is there a winter setting on the control board if so put it on to winter setting also check that the diverting valve is opening properly and top up the pressure to 1.5bar

regular re filling leads to sludge in the system. this will eventually block/restrict the little nooks and crannies and moving parts inside the boiler.

you need to find out why you are having to refill and rectify that problem. then you need a full system flush and clean and possibly fit a filter to the return pipe on the boiler.
