Combi or not?

Thanks for all your advice, very thorough. Sounds like the system boiler is the way to go, shame to let a good combi go to waste but it's gotta be right.

A combi boiler can be used to heat a cylinder, you just don't use the instant hot water part of it.

Your plumber suggested a Megaflow, using your existing boiler (whether that's a system or heat-only boiler isn't clear, but it doesn't matter) and that seems good advice. If the boiler is working OK why spend money on a replacement?

Perhaps check flow rates rather than just pressure. 6lpm can still be 6 bar!
