combined waste pipe problem

the waste pipe for washing machine and dishwasher looks like F on side. Both have own standpipe but washing machine foam is tracking back up dishwasher standpipe and overflowing onto floor. How can I stop this happening? Why doesn't it flow up washing machine standpipe too? Can I seal off the dishwasher standpipe somehow (but with dishwasher still emptying into it?

Any suggestions please??

Sounds like your water is not running away fast enough. Maybe you need to increase the size of your waste pipe to 50 mm, or address the pipe angle.
Better solution may be to have a dedicated waste pipe for each appliance.

Thanks for helping. The pipe is already 50mm but have to admit that it is pretty level - I'll look at feasibility of improving the angle.
