Can anyone help me please. My husband is in the RAF and away right now and now the pilot light has gone out on our boiler. I have no manual. I believe the boiler is as old as the hills , but always been ok . I know my husband has relit the pilot light a few times. I have so far removed the bottom cover, held in the grey bottom button and then pressed the ignition switch. This has sparked but not lit. Am I doing it wrong ? Can anyone suggest anything more I can do before I call out an engineer. Many thanks Val

You need to depress the grey button and then push the ignition button repeatedly. One the pilot flame is lit you need to hold the grey button in for a further 20 - 30 seconds then gently release. If the pilot goes out when you release the grey button you will need an engineer to change the thermocouple.

Many thanks for your suggestion, I have tried this and I can see a spark but the pilot light is not lighting. I have tried for ages with no luck. The dial is set at 4 and I held the grey down for quite awhile then pressed the ignition button over and over for ages but it refused to light. Any other ideas please ? many thanks once again Val

One assumes that you have checked your gas supply is on and (if you have one) credit is available at the meter?

If so then it sounds like time for an RGI to check the pilot injector or possibly the gas valve.
