I have a consumer unit mounted high on a wall in a garage conversion. The previous owners covered it with a rough timber box that I want to replace with something neater.
Are pre-formed consumer unit covers available for this purpose, or am I stuck with making my own?

It's a 16-year old Crabtree unit - W26cm, H20cm, D8cm

Cheers

The cover has to be fit for purpose, fire proof, ingress proof etc. I recently tried to get some replacements for GE c/u's but they couldn't be a*sed! I've just taken out a crabtree box, if I can find it on the skip i'll let you know!

I think you mean it has the maker's plastic cover, but you don't like to see a CU so you want to hide it, is that right?

Or is it missing its front cover, with live parts accessible?

Sorry - should have been clearer - yes, it has the maker's plastic cover and is in good condition. All I want to do is hide it neatly, with a door on the front for access.

I think you will have to make your own. look for a kitchen unit door of convenient size, and whiz up some sides from laminated MDF to fit the door.

It was in a living room you could paint or paper it to match the walls.

Best to leave ventilation openings; they shouldn't get hot but can get warm.

p.s. I think you are being unreasonably obsessive about the elegance of your garage ;)

Thanks. It's a converted garage - now a living room - so it does need to look reasonable!
