hi

cooker switch needs to be moved as having built in oven and hob but the 6mm cable is about 6 inches too short to reach the switch. it will only be supplying the oven so could you join 6mm cable with 60amp junction box or crimp the joints to extend the cable. Access cant be done from above

many thanks

Replace the cable?

If you use a JB will it be accessible afterwards?

If you're moving a switch will the cable still be in an acceptable zone?

Is the circuit RCD protected?

When you applied for Building Regulations approval what did you say would be the way you'd comply with P1?

yeah will be in safe zone as only move to the left as otherwise would be behind the hob which wouldnt work.extending cable would be last resort as ceiling would have to come down as cant access above. i was thinking 60amp junction box or crimp to join cable as its only a oven on the circuit just didnt know whether this would be ok

thanks for your help

Would the joint be accessible when finished, such as being inside a box behind a blanking plate?

The current edition of BS7671 says that screw-terminal joints must remain accessible but that inaccessible crimped joints are now acceptable.

Some of us would not be happy with such joints not being accessible though:

So you're moving the switch horizontally, the cable (by the sounds of it) comes vertically downwards, and you think that it will still be in a safe zone?

Doesn't matter what's on it - if you use a JB will it be accessible?

If you use crimps, what sort of tool will you use?

After you've extended the cable what tests will you do on it to verify that it's OK?

Are you working on these, or ignoring them?:

it would be a ratched crimper not a cheap one.

bas- yeah be moved horizontally. the old switch cable has been chased out so would be a case of chasing vertically above the new switch.
