My heating system is making a rattling noise a bit like a family of crickets has moved in.

I can here it very clearly around the pump and the noise got faster when I changed the pump setting up. The noise is also obvious if I put my ear near the pipework.

Any ideas in cause / how to get rid?

When I switch the pump off the noise goes - is a new pump needed or some other way to fix the issue?

Sounds like a lack of water!

Pressure?

Water in F&E tank?

Tony

Pressure is just over 1 bar.

F&E tank will be in the loft won't it? Can't get there at the moment.

The hot water and rads are very hot and flow quickly.

If you have pressure then there is no F&E tank.

What is the angle of the pump shaft?

What happens when you remove pump screw?

Tony

Most probably the pump shaft bearings, especially if the noise increases with pump speed increase. Could be a foreign body in the base of the pump, but if it is a few years old, then wear & tear is favourite.
