I have a dark understairs walk in cupboard and would like to fit a light. I can not see any easy way to extend the downstairs lighting circuit, but there are power sockets on the otherside of the wall.
Can I fit a fused spur from the ring main for a light?

Thanks for any help.

Yes. Ideally put the FCU directly onto the socket circuit as if it were a socket, rather than run a single spur cable from a socket to it, and then go from there to a light switch in a handy place, and then to the light.

Presumably you do not plan to bury the cables in the walls?

As the light switch will be single pole, you'll need to join the neutrals there with a piece of choc-block.

3A fuse in the FCU.

Don't forget to turn off the power to the socket circuit first. If the circuit is on an RCD, be prepared for that to trip if a any time you short N & E on one of the cables, even though the power is off.
