Dimmer problem.....

Just been finishing off some lighting for my brother (13 x 12v 50w spots) in his very large kitchen/family room/dining room, and now his wife says that they want to dim them. The switch that controls these lights is 4 gang (in a 2 gang 35mm back box):-

1 gang for a single pendant above the family area
1 gang for 4 wall lights in the family & dining area
1 gang for a 4 spot bar light above the kitchen island
1 gang for the 13 spots

Unfortunately as they want flat plate, screwless, brushed stainless, black inserts, metal finish switches with no unnecessary plastic on show - it is very difficult to get.

I have been looking and the only solution that I have found is to change the switches for a 6 module grid switch and blank 2 off as 1000w dimmer modules are 2 wide. The preference would be to use a 4 module grid switch with a remote dimmer pack for the spots, I know that in the past I have posted info on these type of dimmer, but I am having problems finding one that fits in with the finish requirements, also I would like to not have to rip out the existing wiring, but I do not know how this type of dimmer are connected (I assume that the remote dimmer module is just like a slave switch to the dimmer pack)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You need to buy a 1kW dimmer that will handle TH without derating.

I would use a smaller lamps to give a total wattage of <600W, then use MK's 600W dimmer. I'm not sure if it can be used without derating, so give them a ring on 01268 563000 and ask for the MK tech line.

EDIT: I think you have to derate dimmers if they share a back box. Therefore, you will need to put them in separate enclosures. MK will help you more than I can.

We are having problems sorting this, but we have been looking at the GET IQ dimmer modules (don't think they have to be derated - not sure of the max loading for the switch plate though!!)

What do you think of the GET range??
