Dishwasher problem (slight burning smell) not cleaning

Quite an old machine. Philips/Whirlpool 136/7. Dial timer. no leds etc.

Last time used, noticed inch or two of water in bottom and nothing was cleaned at all - items dry. Also noticed when door opened - no heat - normally warm air comes out. Also thought there was a very slight burning smell.

So checked the plumbing - all good. Cleaned the filters and arms - all good. Switched on -drained fine. Left a while - got couple of inches of water again but doesn't seem to be doing anything else. Has made a few small whooshing noices but not the normal full whack.

Anything worth checking??

Don't know if it helps but I plugged it into a power monitor. After about 3 or 4 minutes, the power usage goes up to about 850watts. It stays like this with just a humming noise for a good few minutes, whilst the wattage gradually drops to about 700. It seems like it should be doing something during this time but isn't. Not sure but the burning smell seemed to start again during this time. I stopped it, obviously. Turning the dial, most times seem to be between 20 and 40 watts with either water being pumped in or out.

Probably heading for the skip but happy to do some basic checks.
