Hi
We moved to this house 3 months ago so dont know the full boiler history.
We have a big combi boiler downstairs which provides hot water to downstairs and we assume the radiators which are fairly new (around 3 years old). Upstairs is a large hot water cylinder that does the power showers.
Every month or so the combi boiler grinds to a halt. Its still under warranty as its less than 2 years old. We've had different engineers out and they have all said the boiler stops working due to sludging up and that its the worst case of sludging they have seen. They have advised a powerflush and the company the warranty is with dont do powerflushes so we're sure its good unbiased advise.
We've got some quotes and its expensive so we thought we'd double check by bleeding a couple of rads and seeing what the water is like. To our complete suprise its clear!! Its summer so the rads havent been on much but I switched them on for half an hour before we tested to get the sludge moving.
So what is going on and how can we have a sludge problem? Why does our boiler sludge up but the rads look fine. How do we fix the problem?
Thanks
