Do I need an RSJ?

Thank you all for your replys, some a little technical!

I was reading my plans and it states to use a birtley lintel or equlivant, the building inspector has stamped my plans as approved so I assume and hope the builder would have to stick to this? Is a birtley lintel a concrete or steel one?

Didn't know the answer myself but googled them - They make steel Lintels

Is there anything on the drawing to indicate the loading or the model of lintel selected ? To be honest I would think Catnic is one example of a similar one which couild be used. The really important thing is the load it has to take.
