Hi all,

This is my first post here and I am in desperate need of some help please. We are buying a house where we don't like the external facade / exterior front wall of this 1930's built semi. It seems that the original brickwork has had these horrible rough bricks/tiles layered all over it. It is the only house on a rather long road with such an exterior so my guess is that someone along the way decided to change the look - only to ruin it!

Attached are 2 pictures of what it looks like. Could you pls let me know what my options are to change this look of the exterior wall and approximately how much would it cost.

My preference would be to try and achieve a mock-tudor look if possible (is it?).

If not, exposed brickwork or plain plaster.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Many thanks

Once you start stripping the external decor on that building it then becomes a Building Regulations (thermal) issue.

Potentially the cost could be upwards of £15k depending upon how much current EWI systems cost and it would be prudent to replace those ally windows (£7k) in order to deal with the increase in wall thickness.

Doesn't look like there is much soffit overhang though so I might be tempted to either avoid that property or live with what you've got.

Hi, Thanks for your reply...

I'm disappointed that changing the facade could cost as much as 7K. I guess you're right either we avoid it or live with it.

On the upside, you haven't said that its impossible.

Thanks again for your reply.

Why not experiment with different colours of paint see if you can tone it down to maybe blend in with that coloured band between the two houses.. Just a thought... ;)
