I currently bought a new home that wasn't finished by the previous owner do to unfortunate circumstance. My basement exits the house via a bilco door prefab cement stairwell. Instead of using the standard metal swing up bilco door they built a framed structure and used a steel door. The base of this structure is plywood and needs to be cemented or stuccoed to match the rest of the foundation.
My problem is that the thrshold/sill of the door is facing outward extending about 6cm and has no support under it. All the moldings have been put on but their is a 2.5cm gap behind the molding at either side of the sill. The under portion of the middle of the sill is free and clear. I thought about putting a 2.5cm piece of pressure treated plywood lenghtwise along the bottom of the sill extending to the end of the moulding and then placing a 2x4 over this at the middle portion. Then I would finish it with stucco/ cement in an L shaped fashion to meet the foundation. My hope is to weatherproof the framing under the door so I would apply roofing paper and mesh. Any suggestions would be greatfully appreciated.
