I am undertaking my garage conversion and looking for some advice. All external walls (including the new one in place of the garage door) are cavity walls. However, the two 'columns' either-side of the garage door (and supporting the lintel) are of solid double-brick thickness construction (i.e. no cavity). There is a DPC however.

Can my plasterer plaster straight onto this section of wall? Or will this lead to penetrating damp and some for of 'tanking' should be undertaken?

Theoretically possible with constant driven rain, but probably not in practice

There could be a condensation/pattern staining issue though, with a cold section of wall in between better insulated parts
