So on a standard pitched cut roof, I have rafters sitting on a wall plate with a birds mouth joint, and alongside each of these, a ceiling/floor joist.
When I come to double up the rafters for some roof windows, some will want to sit where the joist is 'blocking' it's path to the wall plate. Is it okay to sit it on top of the joist as it is all part of the same structural triangle as it were, or does it have to connect to the wall plate directly. In which case, how do I do that?
