Hi . . . hope this is the right area to ask this question. . . . .

We have a downspout at the front of the house which leads down in to a drain which has been fitted slightly lower than the soil around it. It doesn't seem quite right and I'm wondering what I could do to improve it both aesthetically and practically as soil inevitably ends up falling in the drain.

. . . . but don't know where to start. Is it a case of digging around the drain, laying an inch of concrete and laying the gully surround on top?

Any advice gratefully received.[/url]

google 'leaf stopper drain cover'

Thanks, we have a similar product in place but the surrounding soil is higher than the drain and it still gets clogged so I am thinking about raising the level by using a gully surround or some well placed bricks?

Fitting the gulley surround should solve the problem. Put it on a decent bed of concrete, and haunch a bit up around the outside to hold it in place. Make good any gaps inside between the surround and the gulley with strong mortar mix.

Alternatively see what is involved to raise the gulley slightly to suit, but first option may be easier!

Make a surround out of housebricks and some compo (do you have any bricks lying around?)
