My downstairs radiators don\\\'t work but upstairs ones do. I understand this may be because the pump has failing so I have to \\\"Turn the central heating system off, wait for the pump to cool and try to start the pump manually. In the middle of the pump, remove the screw and turn the pump\\\'s manual starter - the impeller\\\" Before I do this do I need to turn off the electricity supply to the boiler and pump? Also when they say remove the screw is this the big silver thing on the front - only it doesn\\\'t seem to turn.....

It will turn but it can be a bit stiff (you are talking about the big srew on the front of the pump?), try a bigger screw driver, and as for the electric its not a bad idea to have it turned off.

Also read about "balancing" (use the "search" facility)

I did think about balancing but the faulty pump description seems to fit so thought I'd try that first.

I have a grundhog ups boiler. When you say the big screw on the front is the front the black circular part with the writing on it with the big silver screw? Or is it the black square part on top of the boiler where all the electrics are. This also has a screw in the middle although smaller and this one I have managed to remove.

Sorry - as you've probably gathered i'm a complete novice at this!
