I am installing drainage channel at the foot of a garden wall, which has drain holes in it to allow the water to flow from the garden.

I intend to run this into a soakaway, but I believe that I am allowed to connect that soakaway into the main sewer, in case it overflows.

What is the best way to connect into the main pipe and what is the best trap to use ( Don't want any smells coming back )?
Also, is there a trap I could use which will allow rodding access, or wil that not be necessary ?

When connected linear drains i always try and use a bottle gulley as it is easier to clear if needed. I never understand the common alternative of putting a completely un-rodable shallow p trap in instead.

Thanks, I'd seen the 'P' traps, when researching, but I couldn't understand what you did with it if it should get blocked.

If the drainage channel is not going through a soak away, what method is used to run them into the drain ? I've seen these run to the standard rain water drain, but couldn't quite see how they hvae been connected in.

A common option is to knock into the side of an existing gully. This often means putting in a new replacement bottle gulley with extra knockout entry points.

People have been known to simply Y off a pipe somewhere but not really legit without putting in a new I chamber.

A bottle gulley is best becasue it will act as a silt trap for any crud in the run off
