Hi there all,
I was wondering if it is ok to drill a hole for a soil pipe (from toilet) through a supporting brick wall, 1 foot away from the side edge. (Wall supports roof)
As I've never done this before I am worried that it might weaken the integrity of the wall.
If so, is there a way around it, like adding a steel tube that works as re-inforcment, or something similar.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks Tony,
Just to clarify the 1 layer brick wall juts into the bathroom, (partitioning slightly the room) and then meets the roof beams above, so it's 1 foot away from the end not the croner as such.
I'm guessing that it doesn't matter but I just wanted to double check.
Thanks guys
Tom

are you basically asking if its ok to put a hole for a soil pipe through a load bearing wall?

You can safely remove a single brick from a load bearing wall, and the loads will simply spread around the opening. (Any actual structural engineers, feel free to come down on this if it's an error like, well, a ton of bricks)

A round hole, assuming no more than 150mm dia shouldn't adversely effect a load bearing wall. They're drilled all the time though house walls for vents and extractors.

Drilling lots of them in a confined space though, asking for trouble.

Fubar.
