Hey guys.

I’ve currently got an application in for a single storey rear extension.

Architect has drawn it to be 100mm from the boundary to maximise my space as well as keeping it away from my neighbours conservatory footings.

The finish will be rendered blockwork, but obviously there will be no access to the one wall- I guess not a massive problem as it’s not seen (by us, see below) and is sheltered from driven rain.
The neighbours conservatory is all glass, even the boundary side. Although there is a fence currently there and they have blinds that are permanently closed.
Just wondering what I could do to the bare blockwork to make it a bit nicer if my neighbour was to open his blinds? Or am I thinking too much into it as it shouldn’t really have glass on that side anyway, so bare block will suffice?

Thanks!

Get a better Architect to design something more visually acceptable, maintainable and buildable?

I specified it to be as long as possible so not entirely his problem. Although reading back, I’ve put all this on him.

Nothing is going to be ‘maintainable’ without moving the wall in enough to get a fat person down the side, of which isn’t really practical, we need as much room as possible.

No reason why the block work can't look neat even building overhand. Maybe consider painting the boundary side in a similar colour to the render? It'd have to be painted in stages as the blocks go up and have dried but it'd look better on the eye.

Get a mural artist in to paint the blocks one by one, so in the end you have something like this ;)
