fan fitting

hi there .. hope this is where i should be typing ..... i am trying to fit a ceiling fan up and i cant understand the wiring ... there's 2 cable's with black red and earth .. and 2 cable's with just red and earth's ... there are 2 switches on the wall .. i cant get the light's to work ... the fan is brand new and so are the bulbs.. can anyone help please .......thanks

yeh ... i took the standard light off and was presented with all these wire's coming out of the ceiling ..

Two switches?? Do they both control the same light?? Can you tell use what connections you have in the switches?? Was there any red sleeve or tape on any of the black cores??

yes ... the two switches controlled the same light ... there was not any tape on either of the two black wires .. when i opened the switch on the wall ... there were 2 red wires and a black and an earth in each switch..

good news ... i have finally done it ... i had the lights cable mixed up with the fan cable ... THE FAN WAS BROWN AND BLUE AND THE LIGHTS WERE BLUE AND ORANGE ... LOL ... sorry to have bothered you ... thanks

I highly doubt the "orange". However, I can understand some brown cores do look like they are in fact orange, especially cheap stuff. Some SWA i used actually looked like the brown core was CLEAR, with the copper of the internal core showing through. There was some pigmentation in the plastic, but not a lot.
