FIRE BACK BOARD

Hi, just renovating a house and have had the gas fire disconnected (by a Gas Safe Engineer) The old back board that went between the fire and the mantle piece to cover the gap has fallen apart and I need to replace it. What material can I use - is plasterboard allowed to be used, its a flue less gas fire if that make a difference?
