Hi All

Im currently in the process of knocking out my v-old 1930s ceramic open fire place (as you can see) as I want to fit a woodburner. I was hoping to have come across a lintel by now but I haven't. All ive done so far is take out the firesurround and get rid of the back of the old fire. I can see the bricks around the hole are just put together to give the fireplace shape so I have no problems taking those out. But I was just wondering, is it worth chipping plaster away upwards to reveal this lintel? Will the lintel be obvious or could it be painted over or disguised some other way?

Many thanks

the picture has come out on its side so sorry about that. You can make out the fireplace with the dustpan and brush on it.:)
