high all,

could someone suggest the best way of removing an old fireplace.

it is the classic 1900-1950 tiled fireplace with a wooden surround, with the hearth sitting proud of a wooden floor.

in short i want to get it out without any damage as i have promised it to a friend.

any advice will be warmly welcomed.

thanks

RM

there are usually two hidden lugs on the legs of the uprights that are plastered over. you will need to reveal these by chipping the plaster from around the fireplace. undo the screws from these lugs and the surround should tease free.

a hearth is usually cemented down, so trial and error with some careful bolster chisel work may tease it free.
