Need to dim down a fluorescent lamp.
Have found covers on the net you can slide over the lamp to dim them

The same website shows how you can direct the light with tin foil
Sticking tin foil on the tube, by the looks of it.

Has anybody ever shaded a tube with tin foil, was it successful, is it safe and what would you stick it on with

Thanks

Please don't stick tinfoil to a flourescent tube. Please.

Fit a proper diffuser to the fitting if it's too bright, however I have to say that the whole point of flourescent lighting is that it gives lots of light!
Consider changing to a tungsten or LED fitting instead, but please don't tinfoil a tube.

would like to know why not.

Have a problem with the lamp reflecting back of the window, blocking it with foil sounds like a possible answer.
