Hi,

I have a Ford Escort 1997 and noticed smoke coming from the engine today. The water is fully topped up and the oil is fine. I don't really know how to check other things on it but just wondered if you knew what it may be. The temperature gauge has never worked since I bought it and the fan is working.

Thanks

If it's smoke from under the bonnet then it's unlikely to be coolant related.

Check there is no oil on the exhaust, maybe an oil leak somewhere?
Has the exhaust got a hole in it somewhere?
Is it petrol or diesel?

When you say the oil is fine, do you mean that you have recently topped up the oil?

Any spilt oil may smoke until it is burnt off.

It's petrol. I just checked the oil level. It's intermittent too and I think it has been happening during the hot weather mostly.

Perished & leaking fuel pipes? An MOT failure I believe, if it's leaking on to the block - for obvious reasons.
