Front door won't lock

Hi

Recently had a problem with our front door handle, (upvc door) when the door is shut it won't lift up all the way but when the door is open the handle lifts all the way.

Something I've not seen before on the inside there is a thumb turn above the door, I presume to stop you getting locked out?

Only thing I've noticed is the external handle is a little loose but no idea why the handle won't lift?

Any suggestions?

Your door needs adjusting, basically the locking points aren't lining up as they should when the door is closed hence why the handle has come loose.
