Hello, was wondering if any one could help?

I am going to build a raised garden bed retaining wall for a flower bed, as you can see from the picture the back of the wall will be 15 m long, the flowerbeds will be spilt into 3 sections of around 5 meters long. Each section will be 1 block higher and around 0.2 m wider as it goes down the garden. The first section will be 1.5 blocks tall, then 2.5 blocks then 3.5 blocks( it wont be a tall wall)

What i need to know is;

- will it be ok if i do this using single blocks or will it need to be 2 blocks thick? any advice on what type of block to use?

- Do i need expansion gaps, if so where would you put them?

thanks for the help

Obviously on the view from above the black line indicates where the blocks will be!

Build it out of concrete blocks either 3.5 or 7N.

4 inch thickness is fine.

Line it with dpm or paint the inside with synthapruf

You will need control joints, the obvious place would be in the internal corners where each 'box' meets the next.

In essence build the central one as a complete box then build the others to as C shapes so they stop just short by 10mm. Carry wall ties through the joint then fill it with mastic once your done.
