Hi,

I'm having work done (not all done by same person) which comprises of:

Old flooring being lifted, old skirting being taken off
New flooring laid, new skirting being put on
Walls & ceiling plastered
Built in floor-to-ceiling cupboards being built.

questions is, apart from the obvious (old floor lifted before new floor put down) what would be the 'best' order for the work to be done?

TIA

I'd lift the old flooring, although you don't say what it is. Carpet? Laminate? T&G floorboards? If it's just carpet or laminate it can be removed first.
Take off the old skirting.
Plaster ceiling and walls.
Replace skirting boards. (all depending upon type of flooring , as above)
Put new flooring down.
Build floor to ceiling cupboards (could possibly be done after plastering has been done depending on the flooring).

Let me know what the type of flooring is for further advice. :)

Thanks joinerjohn,

the flooring is laminate - being replaced with solid bamboo.

I wasn't sure whether it was better to plaster first and then get the cupboards built

or

get the cupboards built (as there may be some 'knocking about') then get the place plastered.

Cheers for the advice.

Lift the old flooring.
Take off the skirting.
re-plaster walls.
Replace skirting.
Build cupboards is probably the way I'd go.

Take note.

You should have the plastering done before the cupboard. In the future you might want to remove the cupboard and at least you will have a nice new wall behind it. You could also give the plaster a couple coats of paint before the cupboard goes up.

A good chippy will cause minor damage to any new plaster, if at all.

Having the cupboard there first might:
1. Get in the plasters way.
2. Get damaged from wet plaster.
3. Get damaged from ladders, it does happen.
