Hi,

There appears to be green moss growing inbetween the bricks all over my patio.

Is this common or is there an underlying problem?

How would I remove it?

Thanks

hi, i have the same thing on my block paving... must be a derbyshire thing !!!

I don't know the science that well, but this mossy, mouldy stuff seems to be very effective and grow wherever there's moisture and it can get a foothold.... the stuff on my block paving needs nothing more than a stiff brush and a few spare hours to get rid.

Are your bricks pointed (mortared joints)? if so, then you might need to scrape out the mortar a bit and re-point... not sure if there's an off the shelf moss repellant?

Apart from that, you could try a pressure washer thing...? they do sound quite good...

It does not imply other problems with your patio but is merely moss growing in damp areas where general grime is acting as a breeding ground for it.

there are various products around and i can recommend armatillox for dealing with moss. you can get it in garden centres.

Also for general patio dirt there is a products called 'patio magic' which works quite well but takes a while.

Only powerwash paving if its very bad and scrubbing/ chemicals will not shift it.

Lastly be careful if its natural stone and heed any warnings on Products

Thanks all,

When I use Armillatox how do I clean it? With a brush as the area is big. Sorry bit I am a real beginner.

How do I find out if they are mortared? Is it if they are stuck together like bricks in a house wall?

Last question :D How do I know if they are natural stone? They just look like fancy bricks

it doesn't matter if they are mortared.

if they are small i.e less than 400mm its unlikely they are natural stone.

Armatillox or patio magic are simply applied with a low pressure sprayer or watering can with fine rose. You jsut spray it on and leave it no scrubbing required.

They are not that cheap but don't be tempted to under-dose them, following the guidelines and wait for it to warm up a bit.

If you can take a photo i can probably tell you better what they are and how best to clean it.
