Hi , We have a Halstead Best 80 , its about 7 years old . Recently it has decided to not strike up on every occasion . If it does not then by switching off the programme clock and then re-starting it , the boiler starts . Sometimes it will take a few goes to make it work . Once running it usually works Ok untill the timer switches it off again . Could it be the Aquastat PCB on the way out or would it be the main ignition control box ?
The boiler does get serviced; just trying to identify the possible fault .

This really needs to be tested for 240V at the ignition pcb whilst in fault mode.

Usually it is the ignition pcb at fault.

Is the fan spinning everytime? Has the aps proved?

Thanks for the reply . It recently has had a new fan fitted . The fault is intermediate , when the timer clicks to on , the boiler does nothing at all , fan does not move , nothing happens , then as I said , if I turn off the boiler at the timer and switch it on again , it will (usually) strike up OK . It may take a few clicks on and off , but once started it will stay on and heat OK .

Get yourself a multimeter and next time it fails to operate check for about 230Volts at the permanent live terminal in the boiler and the switched live terminal. Then you can determine whether the fault is with the boiler or the controls.
