The 2.5" stand pipe which my laundry machine drain hose runs into is at a height of 42". It's a minor thing but it is visible and now that i am "cleaning-up" and painting my laundry room I would like to cut about 6" - 8."

According to the "Installing A Washing Machine" page The height of stand pipe or sink should be between 24 and 40 inches.

The machine currently drains fine. I just want to make sure I am not creating a problem by cutting the pipe down to 36".

Thanks

Look in the book fer the machine ......... They syphon if its too low (ie fill & drain @ the same time)

that was my first step but i couldn't find an installation manual and it wasn't covered in the user manual

33" is the general height but you need to consider the outlet, and you should look for 12-16" above the outlet pipe

Google the make & model ..... Ya would be surprised

You are breaking the "If it ain't broke don't fix it" rule tho

no luck with the internet search; the model is probably too old.

i'm over 16" above the outlet pipe so i am going to give it a shot despite the "if it ain't broke rule"... i know, i know. lol

thanks for the replies

The 2.5" stand pipe
2.5" is an inch bigger than any of us would expect to find here in the UK.
Suggest you try a US DIY site. Apart from the common sense aspect we generally speaking cant be of much help as few of us here are familiar with your regs and practices.
