I want to install a dimmer switch in the lounge to control a cluster of 4 halogen spotlights. I have 2 switches in the room, one with just the 3 cables into it and the other with: 1 brown, 1 brown and 1 grey together and 1 brown and 1 black together plus earths.

the dimmer switches sockets are: L, Sw, and a wavy line with an arrow through it.

I would like, if possible, for someone to tell me how it should be wired up or should it be on the switch with just the 3 cables.

Thanks in anticipation
Frank

same way it is now.

you should also check to see

a) are the lamps 12v via transformer, if so is thransformer dimble

b) if lamps are mains what is the rating of the dimmer as some need to be derated by 50% to dim halogen lamps

DO NOT WIRE BOTH DIMMERS controlling the same light fitting.

You may cause serious damage to them, and it will not work as desired (think about it) unless the manufacturer specifically states you can wire them like this.
