It's in the installation/service instructions under pressure vessel removal/replacement which came with the boiler which said "leave with the customer"

Where is the expansion vessel on this boiler? If it's at the back, requiring removal of boiler from wall to change, you would be better off just fitting a generic ex. vessel (£20? - see BES site) externally to the boiler, connected to the return pipework.

Chris, the vessel is under the larger one( I'm assuming the bigger one is for hot water storage) and seems pretty accesible .I'm a little vague in certain areas of this and have heard that they might need to be charged??

the main reason i'm asking about removal of the vessel is that i'm losing pressure gradually and am going to change the pressure relief valve first, but just wanted to be armed with a little more info first

thanks again

Sounds like you're groping in the dark. Better get yourself a manual, study it, do some research on the net and finally decide that you'd better get a professional in.

Look for leaks on your system, around valves, and from the safety valve discharge pipework, and fix them first. Then, if you still suspect the expansion vessel get a CORGI reg'd installer to check / charge / change it
