Hello, I'm new here today, so I 'm very sorry if this has been asked before or I've put this in the wrong place, but please can you offer advice?

My hot water will only work when the central heating is on. The timer works fine, the room thermostat works fine. The pump is working and the boiler fires up, but if I turn off the heating then the hot water will not come on at all.

Can anyone give me some guidance. The boiler is old, but works fine otherwise. It's a Baxi Bermuda 552.

Thank you.

Yes I have a honeywell. It's not in the airing cupboard though it's near the programmer which is close to the boiler and the pump. (its a baxi bermuda back boiler)

Which of those valves do you have? They are both made by Honeywell. It does sound that you will struggle to fix your problem and it may save time to call a decent heating repair company to sort it.

I agree that getting an engineer would be a good idea!

Are you a woman?

Yes I am a woman!

The valve has been replaced two days ago. The problem remains!

Any other ideas please?

This is driving me nutty!

Well the immediate answer is to call back the person who replaced the valve ( apparently unnecessarily ) without properly diagnosing the real problem.

Diagnose twice and replace once!

Thank you, he is coming back tomorrow morning, but for my own peace of mind, do you know what could be causing the problem? The header tank is full of water, the programmer comes on and off when it is supposed to, the room stat turns on and off the heating, the pump works, the boiler fires up, but I can't have hot water without heating, no matter what.

Any suggestions as to what might be the cause would be really gratefully received.

Thank you.
