Ideal sprint rapide combi boiler 20 years old. for some time now my hot water has been running hot and cold, which is not very good for having a shower. could this be down to age or furring up? my area has very hard water. forgot to add all hot taps in house do the same!

The normal reason for this is that your heat plate exchanger has a build up of magnatite in it, it then does not transfer the heat from the boiler hot water to your hot water that goes to your taps. It would need cleaning out or renewing if really bad, to prevent it happening again I would fit a magnaclean filter to your heating return pipe just before the boiler to stop the magnatite building up again. You can also clean the filter from time to time it catchs 100%.
