Hotpoint WM62 door contact problem

Washing machine door is not making contact, to allow it to lock and let the cycle begin. The red on light flickers when door is slammed (tried it as last resort) washing machine will not come on.

Sorry if not specific enough but if you need more info ill try.

PS.. I've got to do my washing

its a little heater type thing, i got mine off the net. you take top off to reach the thing that holds it. its very common failure.
