top loader..given to us some years ago..build date c.2000 I think.

Has been fine for years apart from the odd belt..but then recently has started being difficult to start. Electrical fault of some type I think as once it is going it washes /spins ok (though I think the wife said it missed the spin part of the its cycle once).

So when press the on/off switch right down to "on" (it clicks/locks on ok) the on/off red light next it does not come on but you can hear the light clicking of a timer (?) on the programmer. No water is taken in..if you lightly press the on/off switch the light will flicker on..and the machines starts to work..but often the light will go out after 3 or 4 seconds and all you have is the light/regular clicking noise from the direction of the programmer switch. After a number of attempts I can generally get the red light to come on "permanently" i.e. power up the machine to start its programme..and it will generally run through its chosen cycle with no problems. (Occasionally it has stopped mid-cycle)..the fault seems to be worsening in that today it took me about 15 minutes to get it to run (it had a load in!).

I don't think it is just the on/off switch itself (..I guess I could temporarily bridge the 2 connections on the base of the switch to check on that part?)
..is it more likely to be the motor control module?

I have had the top console off and undone the 3 screws of the control board..lifted it up/out (so far) & looked at the components..no loose wires/connectors that I can see and no sign of arcing/burning.

the machine owes us nowt but it seems a shame to chuck it if I can repair it with a £30-40 part?

thanks for reading
