I'm going to paint some woodwork with oil-based eggshell. I've used it before and put 1 coat of undercoat on before 2 coats of the eggshell. But I've seen quite a few people say they put 2 coats of undercoat on and then 1 top coat.

Is that method preferable? And if so, why? Thanks.

I'd personally knot treat it then undercoat once then overcoat twice like you said you did before. If you were using a one coat paint, two undercoats would give a better base for the one coat to work.

Gobz.

Eggshell does not require undercoat, treat the knots then prime followed by 2 coats of eggshell.
