How to best insulate loft!?

Hi,

I've been given a large amount of aluminium thermal insulation for topping up the insulation in our loft.

We currently have 100mm of regular insulation in the floor of the loft, but this is not much so we will need to put in some more. I have been told several different answers and research has come back rather varied too! Please could you help me by telling tell me:
a) where to put the foil insulation
b) whether or not it will be suitable for the floor and/ or rafters
and if so,
c) how much of it should we put on top of the current insulation to make it most effective?

If you have been given this stuff , then put it in place.


It won't do what it says it does but is bettter than nothing.
