Hi everyone, my brother in law has a house which he is trying to sell and it has a crack in the brickwork high up on the gable end. The crack has been there for years and is stable (not getting worse). However he has been told to fix it with some sort of resin and steel. Can anyone of you tell us what exactly needs to be done and is it a diy job or not ? He would like to render over the repair (resin) and paint it if this is possible ? Thanks for your consideration and advice in advance , STIX.

if hes rendering it , just fix sheets of expanding metal on yhe wall and then render it.use sand, cement and hydrated lime.

Is the expanding metal (steel) the stuff which looks like mesh ? Do you nail the mesh onto the wall first ?What about the resin fix , is this not necessary or would it be better to do this first ? The thing is the building inspector wants proof that the work has been carried out to a satisfactory standard. Thanks.

You could try helifixing which will stop secondary cracking.
Crack stitching rake out about 40mm then install helical stainless steel rods. resin in (apoxy) or Hilti if feeling generous spray/brush with PVA and repoint.

oops, prolly you want about 4-6 course spacing on the rods.
