I have had to patch a large hole in an exterior Oak beam in the front open porch to our property. The beam has been attacked quite badly by wood worm in the past.
Anyway, I have filled a hole [quite large about 2"x4" and 1.5" deep] on the underside where the wood hard started to come away using Ronseal Professional Wood Filler (light oak / pine colour). This says it can be stained but I have tried with furniture paint and brown cuprinol ducks back fence paint and it doesn't take the colour like timber.
The oak is already stained a very weathered dark brown or black. So I need to match the patching to that. Thinking I may have to buy some matt black or dark brown timber paint and stain over that?
