We have some plants that prefer natural rain water, so with this in mind, we are thinking of piping our gutter fall pipe to a water butt. The only potential problem here is that we get quite a lot of moss on our roof, some of which gathers in our drain. Would this moss contaminate the water in the butt if we decided to go this route ?

Moss won't cause a problem for using rainwater for plant watering and to be quite honest it wouldn't cause any real problems should you wish to use the water for human consumption , although it would require some filtering and so on .
