My new house has fairly extensive woodworm underneath and within the loft there’s woodworm in various areas spread around but it doesn’t look too bad in the loft. I’m getting a local guy round soon to spray my timbers with woodworm treatment including in the loft.
My options are to leave the existing loft boarding where it is and spray all visible timber (the easiest and cheapest option), or to take out the loft boarding and spray underneath to do a proper job. If I go with the latter I’ve been told the old loft boards will be un-usable (he's already tried getting some up) so new ones will need to be bought and a skip will be required for the old boards. Also ideally I’d like new thicker insulation because what I’ve got is inadequate so then I’d be looking at new boarding on legs and paying out an extra £3260 for the privilege which is a lot of money for me.
Do you think it’s a really bad idea woodworm-wise to leave the old loft boarding where it is and not spray underneath? Obviously I’m unable to see if underneath is affected by woodworm or in the future if it’s taken hold. My handyman says he can spray a bit under the old loft boards from the sides but that not all areas would be reached, he also says the boarding I've got is the best boarding job he's ever seen!
