Hi. This is not so much a DIY question as a “is it even worth asking an electrician to visit?” question. We’re looking to replace a gas hob. Trying to work out if it’s feasible to get an induction hob. We don’t have a cooker supply at the hob location (only a 13 amp socket).

We have a double oven on a cooker point connected to 32A mcb a bit further away.

It is not practical for us to run a new cable to the CU, but it might be possible to get a new cable from the existing cooker point to the hob location.

Is that something which is feasible from an electrical regulations point of view? Assuming total load of both appliances would be within the rating of the existing supply cable.

If not, another gas hob it is, but just trying to find way of keeping my “boss” happy ;)

Thanks,

Stuart

Yes change the outlet plate to a duel plate and run a cable to the hob, as long as all combined ovens hobs etc are under 15kw.

Option 1. Buy induction hob with a 13A moulded plug on it.
They can work fine.
My son has such a one.
Works for his family of four plus guests (alongside his Ninjas and main oven, at times).

Option 2. Wire into the main cooker outlet via a dual outlet as suggested.

Even my big (7 kW+?) induction hob can be limited to draw a max of 13 Amps, via the installation software.
