insulation behind plasterboard

I've been getting in quotes for insulation and what I've found is that the insulation bonded to plasterboard is a heck of a lot more expensive than the component materials, +£15 per sheet. What I'm thinking is to buy the 50mm and plasterboard separate, glue (or nail, not sure what would be best?) the 50mm to the stud and the nail the plasterboard over the top, how does this sound??

Rather than mess about with studs, have you considered direct fix insulated plasterboard;

These combine good insulation with an integral vapour barrier & a plasterboard face.

Thanks for those links. Looks like the stuff I'm going to need.

One thing, and I can't see it on the website... Can this stuff be dot and dabbed directly onto an existing plastered wall? If not, what's the best way of securing it?
