Just to close off this item - the fault was due to a defective ignition unit pcb
Bought a scrap unit on ebay for £12 (also got a free main contol pcb thrown in for free - which had been refurbished)
Since then - the boiler has carried me through winter and works very well. So whilst the Jag was not the best - its still going !!
